The WhatsApp security vulnerability CVE-2025-21043 has posed a major threat to numerous Samsung smartphones running Android 13 or higher since August 2025.
- CVE-2025-21043 attacks the end device directly via manipulated images sent via WhatsApp, without any visible signs. You will only notice too late if your smartphone or tablet is affected by these zero-click attacks.
- Once access has been gained, hackers can install any kind of software without your consent. This ranges from spyware to hacks that prevent you from accessing your device.
- Therefore, check your app overview and uninstall any apps you don’t recognize. It can help to go through the list thoroughly and look for suspicious applications.
- If you notice that your device is suddenly running very slowly or has problems processing data, the security vulnerability may already have been exploited. This also applies to missing files or new contacts in your phone book that you do not recognize.
- In the worst case, you may no longer be able to access your smartphone or tablet. You will either have to restore the device via safe mode or seek professional help.

WhatsApp security vulnerability CVE-2025-21043: Samsung smartphones must be updated immediately
Samsung responded quickly after identifying the problem to close the security vulnerability.
- The security update SMR Sep-2025 was released for a wide range of Samsung devices on September 13, 2025. These are models running Android 13 to 16.
- These devices include, for example, the Galaxy S23 models, the Galaxy Z Fold 7, and the Galaxy S21 FE. These were only the first models to be updated.
- In October, models such as the Galaxy A15 were added. However, since Samsung releases security updates on different dates in each region, it may not yet be available for your device.
- Be sure to check in Settings under Software Update to see if a security update is available. Install it immediately to avoid any problems.
