Laundry detergent substitutes: These household remedies are suitable
If you don’t have any detergent at home and can’t go shopping right now, you can also replace it with household remedies in an emergency. Only use the listed household remedies for hand washing textiles. Before you start, just ask your neighbors for some washing powder.
- Baking soda or baking powder: Baking soda is a universal household remedy. It neutralizes odors and removes sweat stains and dirt. Add a few tablespoons of baking soda to a laundry tub filled with lukewarm water and soak your clothes in it for about 30 minutes before washing them. Alternatively, you can use baking powder.
- Shampoo, shower gel, or liquid soap: Shampoo, liquid soap, and shower gel can also be used to wash your laundry in an emergency. Simply add a dash of shampoo to a tub filled with water and the clothes you want to wash. Move the fabrics back and forth repeatedly and rinse them with clean water after soaking for half an hour.
- Curd soap or gall soap: Curd soap and gall soap are also useful household items. To do this, add some grated gall soap/curd soap or a tablespoon of liquid gall soap to the laundry tub and proceed as with the shampoo.
- Caution: For delicate fabrics, it is better to wait until you can wash them with a mild detergent, as these fabrics could be damaged by household remedies. Wool and silk can be washed with hair shampoo.
