There are two different methods for removing wax from candlesticks. You can remove the candle wax from surfaces using either cold or heat.
How to remove wax from candlesticks: The cold method
To remove wax from a candlestick, simply use the freezer method. This is particularly suitable for candlesticks made of delicate materials that could be damaged by heat.
- Place the candlestick in the freezer for several hours.
- Then remove the wax. You can often do this with your fingers.
- If this does not work, use a wooden or plastic knife, for example. You can reach inaccessible areas with a wooden stick or toothpick. Do not use metal objects to avoid scratching the candle holder.
- Dispose of the candle wax in the general waste.
Removing wax from candle holders using heat
Another, faster option is to use heat. However, this only works with heat-resistant candle holders.
- Oven: Preheat the oven to 60 degrees Celsius. Place the candle holder on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and slide it into the oven. Remove the tray from the oven as soon as the wax has melted. Use heat-resistant gloves or oven mitts to pick up the candle holder and place it on the sink or a board to cool. Allow the wax to cool on the baking paper before disposing of it.
- Hair dryer: You can also do this without an oven. Take a hair dryer and melt the wax on the highest setting. You can soak it up with a kitchen towel or blotting paper.
- Hot water: Removing the wax with hot water is a little wasteful, but just as effective. Simply run the water over the affected areas for a while. Place a bowl underneath to prevent the melted wax from going down the drain and clogging the pipes. The wax will come off automatically. Remove any wax residue with a sponge.
