iPad is disabled – how to fix the problem

If you accidentally enter your PIN incorrectly six times, your iPad will be disabled. However, you can easily reactivate it using the tips in this article.

Reactivate your iPad with iTunes

If you have already synced your iPad with iTunes, reactivating it is relatively simple.

  1. Connect your iPad to your computer and open iTunes.
  2. Then sync your iPad with iTunes. The backup you just created will be used to restore your iPad.
  3. Once the sync is complete, you will need to restore the device.
  4. When this is complete, iTunes will ask you to set up the device. Click on “Restore from iTunes backup.”
  5. Select the backup you just made and let iTunes do the rest.
  6. Once iTunes is finished, you can turn on your iPad and use it again.

Activate iPad without first syncing with iTunes

If you have never connected your iPad to iTunes before, you will need to completely reset your iPad. Please note: This will delete all data and apps. Unfortunately, there is no way to recover this data.

  1. Turn off your iPad.
  2. Now connect your iPad to your computer while holding down the Home button.
  3. Continue to hold down the Home button. Your iPad will now start in maintenance mode.
  4. Do not release the Home button until “Connect to iTunes” is displayed.
  5. iTunes will now display a message stating that an iPad in recovery mode has been found. Click “OK” to restore your iPad.
