Teams vs. Slack: Similarities
If you already have experience working from home, you are probably familiar with one of these two tools. The features of Slack and Microsoft Teams help you with teamwork and communication.
- Teams: This is Microsoft’s cloud-based tool. You can communicate and work effectively via this platform. You can send files and documents, chat, and hold audio and video conferences in real time.
- The biggest advantage of Teams is that all Microsoft Office services are integrated into the platform. In addition, several useful third-party tools are included in the system. These include Salesforce, Trello, and Asana, among others. This allows you to work productively with teams.
- Slack: This is also a cloud-based collaboration platform. It helps you communicate effectively while you work. You can exchange files, messages, and other content. It also offers real-time messaging, file sharing, and audio and video calls.
- The integrated third-party tools include Salesforce, Trello, and Google Drive. As with Microsoft Teams, there is also a desktop and mobile version. This allows you to collaborate with your team while on the go.
How Teams and Slack differ
Despite all the similarities between the two tools, there are also some striking differences. One of the biggest differences is third-party integration.
- Slack focuses on small businesses and start-ups. Microsoft, on the other hand, concentrates more on larger companies. Slack also offers significantly more third-party services. Microsoft Teams, on the other hand, is more anchored in its own ecosystem.
- Slack and Microsoft Teams also take opposite approaches to pricing. Slack is basically free and offers additional features for an extra charge. These start at $6.67 per month.
- Microsoft Teams is basically a paid service and offers a slimmed-down version of its service for small teams. However, Teams is integrated into Office 365. Otherwise, Microsoft’s Basic plan costs $5 per month.
- The two tools also differ in terms of their user interface. Slack has a more casual feel and offers a chat-based interface. Microsoft Teams has a more formal design and presents you with an office-related interface.
- When sending messages, Slack uses a channel-oriented system. The channels can be shared with different people. Basically, the channels can be divided into private and public. Microsoft Teams relies on chats for message transmission. Here you can write to individuals directly or open a group.
