Windows 11: Check compatibility – this is how it works

by Tobias

Before upgrading to Windows 11, you should check compatibility. If you want to install the latest version of Windows on your computer, certain criteria must be met.

Windows 11: Check compatibility – hardware requirements

Windows 11 requires several hardware components and versions before you can perform the update. Below you will find an overview of the minimum requirements for your system.

  • Processor: The processor must be a 64-bit or a SoC- system with at least two cores and at least one gigahertz (GHz) CPU clock speed.
  • RAM: While Windows 10 could get by with 1 GB or 2 GB RAM per processor, at least 4 GB RAM is required for Windows 11.
  • Storage space: Your internal hard disk should have at least 64 GB storage space . Higher capacities are recommended for the full user experience.
  • TPM: The Trusted Platform Module of Version 2.0 is the minimum requirement. Newer devices should therefore be compatible. Older TPM versions represent a security vulnerability and are not supported.
  • Graphics card: At least one graphics card with DirectX 12.
  • Firmware: Your system must run UEFI .
  • Internet: An internet connection is also required. However, it does not matter whether you have an Ethernet connection or a Wlan adapter .
  • Screen: Your screen should support at least HD quality (720p) and be at least 9 inches in size.
  • You can find specific information about your system in the Windows settings under “About” or in the system information, which you can find in the Start menu.

    Check Windows 11 compatibility

If you don’t want to check all the individual hardware requirements separately, you can use a handy tool. With the “PC Integrity Check” tool, you can find out whether your system is compatible with Windows 11 with just one click.

    • Download the “Microsoft PC Health Check” program.
    • Launch the installation file provided for your system and install the program.
    • Open the tool after installation.
    • Click on “Check now” to test compatibility.
    • If your system is not compatible, you will be shown which hardware component is responsible.
    • If no compatibility problems are displayed, your system is ready for Windows 11 and can perform the update.
