You can scan documents using your MacBook. This makes office work easier, whether for personal or professional use. It means you can save important documents digitally straight away and send them with ease. Read more here.

How to scan with your MacBook

  • To do this, connect your printer or scanner to your MacBook. Follow the instructions for the external device.
  • Now go to your ‘System Preferences’ by clicking on the Apple icon in the top left-hand corner or by finding the app in your Dashboard.
  • Here you’ll find the ‘Printers & Scanners’ tab. Then click on the relevant device in the left-hand pane.

The different scanners

Depending on the device, you have various options for scanning your document using your MacBook.

  • If you’re using a scanner with a document feeder, it can scan your document in a single step. To do this, select ‘Use document feeder’.
  • Open ‘Show Details’ for more settings options such as image type, save location or size. Select the appropriate options here according to your needs.
  • With a flatbed scanner, you can scan a series of small images in one go. The device is therefore suitable for digitising analogue photos.
  • To do this, deselect “Use document feeder”. Instead, under “Size”, select the appropriate size for the image to be scanned.
