Setting VLC Player as the default player on your Mac

Unfortunately, there is no universal solution on the Mac for setting VLC as the default media player. However, there is a little trick that does the job. Here’s how:

• Make sure you have VLC Player installed on your Mac. If not, you can download VLC Player for macOS.
• Select a video file and press the Command and [i] keys simultaneously to bring up the file information.
• From the drop-down menu in the ‘Open with…’ section, select VLC Player.
• Then click the ‘Change All…’ button to set VLC Player as the default player for all videos of this type.
• Carry out these steps individually for each video format.
