Overwatch 2: Connection Problems and System Requirements

On 04 October 2022, Overwatch 2 was released as free-to-play. At launch, there were connection problems and long queues. What you should know about the game – including system requirements.

Overwatch 2: Connection problems at launch

Overwatch 2 was released on 04 October 2022. At 9 pm Central European Time, the download of the new game from Blizzard. After the download, however, error messages and long queues awaited players.

  • Those who were able to overcome the connection problems quickly received the following error message: “IN QUEUE: 40000 PLAYERS AHEAD OF YOU” in front of them.
  • Mike Ybarra, president of Blizzard Entertainment, spoke of DDoS attacks on Twitter. He said his team was in the process of fixing the problems, but continued to experience connectivity issues in the process.

Overwatch 2: What’s New

Overwatch 2 is the successor to the team shooter Overwatch, which was released in 2016.

  • Overwatch 2 follows a free-to-play model, unlike its predecessor. It is therefore playable for free.
  • The only thing you can buy is the Overwatch 2 – Premium Battle Pass. With the Premium Battle Pass for Season 1, buyers will directly receive the new heroine Kiriko and will be able to unlock over 80 levels of rewards, including 5 legendary skins and the brand new mythical skin for Genji. Additionally, as a Battle Pass owner, buyers will receive a 20 percent XP boost for the entire season.
  • The Premium Battle Pass package costs 1,000 Overwatch Coins. That’s roughly the equivalent of 10 euros.
  • In addition, five players per side will compete in Overwatch 2. The games are therefore no longer 6v6 as in the predecessor.
  • There were seven new maps in Overwatch 2 at launch.
  • There is also a new mode, Push Mode. Similar to Payload mode, players push a robot into the opponent’s base. But: In push mode, both teams try to push the robot. So it’s a mutual push.
  • Overwatch 2 is trying to bring the Overwatch community back to the game by releasing new heroes. Already announced are DPS Sojourn and Tank Junker Queen.
  • In addition, there will be a focus on PVE action. More co-op missions with new enemy types will be added in Overwatch 2.

System requirements for Overwatch 2

For the year 2022, Overwatch 2 is by no means the most demanding game and should therefore run well on older PCs.

  • For operating system, Blizzard recommends Windows 10 64-bit.
  • For the processor, an Intel Core i3 or AMD Phenom X3 8650 is sufficient, but an Intel Core i7 or AMD Ryzen 5 or newer processor would be better.
  • An NVIDIA GeForce GTX 600, or an AMD Radeon HD 7000 is sufficient as a graphics card for Overwatch 2, but Blizzard recommends an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060/ GeForce GTX 1650 or an AMD R9 380/AMD RX 6400 to play the game smoothly.
  • 6 GB of RAM is sufficient, 8 GB of RAM is recommended.
  • The hard drive needs 250 GB of available space for Overwatch.
