Project Zomboid is a popular survival horror game that is all about survival. Since there are many ways to die in the game, beginners in particular need tips and tricks to get started.

Project Zomboid: Tips for playing

Project Zomboid is a beautiful open world title that simulates survival in an apocalypse. However, especially in the beginning, it can be hard to last long if you don’t know what’s killing them. Here are tips and tricks to help you get started.

  • If you want to make the game easier for yourself in the beginning, you can, for example, change how quickly you die from a bite under Settings, Zombies and Infection Mortality before you start.
  • In the beginning, Burglar is also a good profession to start with, as they can use it to crank cars and break into houses more easily.
  • Important items to find as soon as possible are a bag, weapons, a digital watch, headgear and a first aid kit. When it comes to weapons, it is important that you take percussion weapons if possible, as you cannot operate firearms yet and they also attract zombies.
  • In addition, you should drink water wherever possible, as you will quickly become thirsty. Since you usually start in summer, it helps to take off shirts and vests to conserve your stamina.
  • If you see a zombie, you can dare to fight it. It is important that you always aim at the head with the cursor. You can also push a zombie by pressing the space bar. If you stand on its body, it can no longer get up and you can kick its skull in. This helps if you don’t have a weapon yet.
  • If there are several zombies, it is advisable to flee. To do this, release the right mouse button and run away quickly in another direction with Shift pressed.
  • As a burglar, you can easily hotwire cars. With these you can move faster and you can also flee from zombies. Cars break down quickly, so you shouldn’t run over zombies with them. You can also injure yourself in the process. You can fill up cars at petrol stations and also find food and magazines.
    • For the first seven days, you can still find petrol and food. After that, gas, electricity and water will be cut off and it will become harder and harder to find anything. So collect food and liquids in containers. In addition, during the first week you can watch programmes on TV at 6am, 12pm and 6pm that teach you skills such as fishing.
    • It is equally important to find shelter. It is best to find one in a quiet suburb where there are hardly any zombies. Post boxes will show you houses. Multi-storey houses are safest. Draw all curtains and avoid leaving lights on. If you have to kill zombies in the house, put the corpses in front of the house, otherwise they will poison themselves.
    • Before going to bed or when you otherwise have time, read books for beginners to educate yourself and learn skills that might be useful to you.

    Project Zomboid at a glance

Project Zomboid is a survival horror game that appeared on Steam in 2013.

  • In addition, the multiplayer mode was made possible in 2014. Especially in a team with friends, the game is even more fun.
  • The game is set in the fictional Kentucky of 1993. The government has closed off the region because a zombie apocalypse has broken out there.
  • For the first week, electricity, gas and water are still available. After that, there is no way to fill up with petrol, turn on the tap and the zombies increase in number.
  • So players have to hold out as long as possible. The game thus does not tell how you survive the apocalypse, but how you died. You can discover a lot in the process, as the game is open world.
