VRR has recently become available for the PS5 and can be activated. We tell you here what advantages VRR brings and how you can activate it.
Enable VRR on the PS5
How to enable VRR on your console:
- Make sure you have the latest firmware installed on your PS5, at least you need version22.01-05.000 00.
- You will also need a monitor or TV that is compatible with HDMI 2.1.
- If you have installed the update and have a compatible screen, VRR should already be activated automatically. You will notice this by a display on your TV, which is called, for example, “Enhanced VRR” on Sony or “Instant Game Response” on LG.
- If VRR is not enabled, you can enable it manually in the settings.
- There, navigate to “Screen and Video” and then to “Video Output”.
- There, if the requirements are met, you can toggle the switch for “Enable VRR” from “Off” to “Automatic”.
Advantages of VRR on PS5
There are several advantages to enabling VRR on Playstation 5:
- VRR stands for “Variable Refresh Rate”, i.e. an adaptable refresh rate.
- This ensures that games on the console run without judder even at high computing power.
- Movements during the playing of complex games are also smoother with VRR.
- VR also prevents so-called tearing, which occurs when the delivered frame rate does not match the calculated FPS rate.
- Current games that already support VRR include Call of Duty: Vanguard, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Resident Evil Village.
