DeLonghi Dedica descaling: 5 helpful tips and tricks.

by Pramith

If you descale your DeLonghi Dedica, you will ensure that the coffee machine lasts longer. The machine also consumes less electricity afterwards.

Be prepared before descaling your DeLonghi Dedica

In general, descaling a DeLonghi machine is fairly simple. In most cases, you’ll need instructions for your first attempt, but you’ll get the hang of it quickly. Before you start descaling, make a few preparations:

  • First remove the water tank. If possible, use decalcified water. Use this to fill your tank slightly up to half full. Then pour the descaling solution into the tank according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Now fill your water tank with water up to the ‘Max’ mark.
  • You can also use white vinegar as a home remedy for descaling. Mix it in a ratio of 1/4 vinegar and 3/4 water. You may need several cycles to descale your machine. However, DeLonghi recommends that you only use its own solution.
  • Place an empty container under the spout to collect the water. The container must have a capacity of at least 1.5 litres.

How to perform maintenance on your unit

The Dedica is one of the simpler DeLonghi models when it comes to ease of use. This also applies to the descaling process. If too many minerals have accumulated in the machine, the steam button will turn orange. If this happens, proceed as follows:

  • Press the on/off button. As soon as the lights for one and two cups light up constantly, the machine is ready for use.
  • Press the steam button and hold it down for about 10 seconds. Until all three buttons start to flash.
  • Now turn the control knob to steam. Then press the steam button, which will start the descaling process.
  • When the machine stops pouring out the descaling solution and the steam lamp flashes orange, it is time to rinse.
  • Fill with fresh water after rinsing and press the steam button to start the rinsing process. It is best to use softened water for this purpose.
  • Once the orange light goes out, the cycle is complete.
  • Finally, turn the steam control knob to the closed position and use your appliance as usual.
