Diablo 4: This is how much playtime is in the campaign and the endgame

by Corinna

Diablo 4 offers a dark campaign that prepares players for the endgame. The game time varies greatly depending on the play style.

This is how long you need to play the campaign in Diablo 4

As in Diablo III, the campaign in Diablo 4 is only the preliminary skirmish and is therefore also much quicker to complete than the endgame, which takes players the longest.

  • If you only play the campaign and are not interested in side missions or other optional content, you will reach the end of Diablo 4’s story in just under 18 hours.
  • If you take in both the story and any side missions and other optional content such as dungeons or world events, then it will take you just over 28 hours.
  • If you really want to experience everything the game has to offer as you make your way through the campaign, which consists of six acts in total, then you’re looking at a total of 50 hours of gameplay.
  • It also depends on which class you play with, as some classes are stronger than others and thus enemies can be defeated more quickly or your own character dies less often, which means that you complete quests, dungeons and boss fights more quickly.

Diablo 4: what to expect in the endgame

Having played through the campaign in Diablo 4, the main part of the game awaits you, the so-called Endgame. Compared to the campaign, there is no real end here and therefore it is difficult to define an exact playing time.

  • The Endgame in Diablo 4 introduces various new features that will keep you as a player busy for many hours. Just to reach the max level 100 in the game you need about 150 hours according to the developers’ estimates.
  • Once you have played through the story, new content is now available to you. The so-called Capstone Dungeons offer another challenge and are also the only way to increase the World Tier, i.e. the difficulty level, to 3 and higher. Not only will you encounter stronger monsters, but you will also find significantly better loot.
  • The Tree of Whispers is the end-game activity after you have completed the campaign. Here you will receive regular missions from the tree for which you will receive favours upon successful completion. Once you have collected 10 favours, you are allowed to open one of three chests of the tree and hope for good loot.
  • With World Tier 3, you now have access to Nightmare Dungeons. These are heavier versions of previously conquered instances and also offer better loot. You can only access them if you have previously collected a Nightmare Seal.
  • Hell Flood events are accessible once you have unlocked World Tier 3. This difficulty level regularly triggers the Helltide, which causes powerful monsters to spawn at various locations on the map for an hour. Defeated monsters sometimes drop embers, which you can use to open certain chests. However, if your character dies while carrying embers, you will lose the embers permanently.
  • For players who like to compete with other players, there are the Fields of Hate. These areas are intended for PvP, i.e. player versus player battles, and reward victorious players with resources, which in turn can be exchanged for cosmetic rewards. These cosmetics change the character’s appearance and otherwise have no effect on the game.
