Facebook: How to Hide Your Online Status
To hide your online status on Facebook, follow these steps:
- Once you’re logged into Facebook, go to the Facebook Chat window and click the small gear icon.
- The bottom menu option is “Turn off chat.” Select this option.
- Once you’ve done this, your Facebook friends will no longer be able to see whether you’re currently online or not. This applies to both mobile use on smartphones or tablets and on a PC.
- However, if you have the Facebook Messenger app installed and use it to chat, you’ll need to disable the status there as well, since the previous steps don’t apply to the separate app. To do this, tap the “List” button in Messenger, located at the bottom right. Then tap the “Active” menu item. Finally, you must click the blue toggle at the very top next to your own profile to hide your online status in the future.
- You can also hide your online status from specific people: To do this, simply click on “Advanced Settings” after opening the gear icon in the Facebook chat window.
