If your iPad won’t turn on at all, don’t give up hope just yet. With a few simple steps, you can identify the source of the problem and try to get your iPad working again.
iPad Won’t Turn On: Startup Error
If your iPad no longer starts up properly, the first thing you should do is reinstall iOS. This fixes most boot errors.
- Connect your iPad to a computer and open iTunes.
- Now press the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons on your iPad at the same time. Hold them down until you see the Apple logo.
- Your iPad is now in recovery mode. In iTunes, you’ll see the options “Update iPad” and “Restore iPad.”
- Select “Update iPad” here. This will reinstall iOS without losing your data.
- The installation usually takes a while. Afterward, however, your boot errors should be fixed.
iPad screen stays black – what should I do?
If your iPad’s screen stays black, there’s usually a bigger problem. Still, you can try the following steps:
- First, charge your iPad for about an hour.
- If your iPad still won’t turn on, your cable, power adapter, or port may be damaged.
- So, start by cleaning all of your iPad’s ports. Be sure to remove any dirt or lint from the charging port.
- Next, try using a different cable and power adapter to charge it to rule out this potential cause.
- If your iPad still doesn’t work after an hour of charging, you should contact Apple Support and request a repair.
