On Instagram, you will only receive a notification if someone has taken a screenshot of your content in very specific cases. Stories and normal posts are not affected. However, the situation is different for private messages.
Instagram: Notifications for screenshots
On Instagram, the type of content determines whether you are notified about a screenshot or not.
- Instagram Story: A Story deletes itself after 24 hours. If someone takes a screenshot of your content, you will not receive a notification. As the creator of the Instagram Story, you only see who has viewed or liked your post.
- Posts: Even if a screenshot is taken of your normal posts, Instagram does not notify you about it. Sometimes users save your posts in a collection in Instagram itself. You can see this in your content stats:
- Reels: There is also no notification for short videos in Instagram.
- DMs: If you send self-deleting DMs and the other person takes a screen shot of it, the message will have a small icon. This resembles a sun, and looks like a circle with dashes.
- Interesting to know: The competitor Snapchat also offers its users a story feature. However, if you take a screenshot on Snapchat, the creator of the picture or video is immediately informed of this.
