The ics file extension is used by calendar programmes such as iCalendar or Google Calendar and can be opened in various ways. We’ll show you the options available to you.
How to open an ics file
The ics file extension stands for “Internet Calendar Scheduling”.
- The easiest way to open an ics file is with Apple’s iCal calendar programme.
- If you do not have this programme on your computer, you can alternatively open the file in Outlook. To do this, click on “File” and then on “Open and Export”.
- In the next window, click on “Import/Export”.
- You will now see a selection of different actions. Select “Import iCalendar (ICS)” or “Import iCalendar file (VCS)” and click on “ Next”.
- Select the relevant file and click “Open”.
- If you use Google Calendar, you can also import the ICS file there. To do this, open your Google Calendar. First, open the settings via the cog icon. Select the “Calendar” section there. You’ll find it in the top bar. Then click on “Import calendar” and subsequently on “Browse”. Now select the desired ICS file; all entries from this file will be imported into your Google Calendar.
