AirPlay to Mac – the requirements

AirPlay itself is not a new feature from Apple.

– For a long time, AirPlay was used to send audio or video content from the iPhone or Mac to Apple TV

– The content could then be transferred to the TV.

– With AirPlay to Mac, you can now stream videos from your iPhone to Mac.

– You can also use your Mac as a speaker during playback.

– The prerequisite for AirPlay to Mac is Mac OS 12 Monterey. The operating system has been announced for autumn 2021. However, the curious can download the public beta version now.

– Also, you must have iOS 15 installed on your iPhone to use AirPlay to Mac.

How it works

If both your Mac and your iPhone meet the above requirements, you can use AirPlay to Mac in two ways. Both devices must be on the same Wi-Fi network.

– For example, if you want to play content from your iPhone on your Mac, start the video on your mobile device and tap the AirPlay icon.

– Select your Mac as the destination device here to stream playback to the Mac screen.

– Alternatively, open the Control Centre on your iPhone and select the new option “Screen mirroring”.

– Your Mac will appear in the list of available devices, select it. Then play a video on the iPhone app, it will be mirrored to the Mac screen.
