Compatibility of the 1st generation Apple Pencil
The Apple Pencil is much more than just an ordinary tablet stylus: thanks to its thin tip, movements on the touchscreen are much more precise than with a finger. In addition, the pen recognizes the angle of inclination and the amount of pressure and adjusts its functions accordingly. You can connect the 1st generation Apple Pencil to the following devices:
- iPad mini of the 5th generation
- iPad of the 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th generation
- iPad Air of the 3rd generation
- iPad Pro with 12.9 inch of the 1st and 2nd generation
- iPad Pro with 9.7 and 10.5 inch
Use 2nd generation Apple pencil
You can use the 2nd generation Apple Pencil with the following devices:
- iPad mini 6th generation
- iPad Air 4th generation and newer
- iPad Pro with 12.9 inch of the 3rd generation and newer
- iPad Pro with 11 inch all generations
Apple Pencil with USB-C
The Apple Pencil with USB-C port has been available since November 2023. It is compatible with these iPads:

- iPad 10th generation
- iPad Air 4th generation and newer

- iPad Pro with 12.9 inch 3rd generation (and newer)
