Queen Elizabeth is dead. On 19 September 2022, the funeral of the British Queen will be broadcast live on TV and the internet. You can probably watch the Queen’s funeral live on ARD and RTL.

Buckingham Palace shared the news at 18:30 on 08 September: Queen Elizabeth II has died. Prince Charles will become King Charles. The Queen’s funeral will take place at Windsor Castle on Monday 19 September.

  • The Queen’s funeral will be broadcast live around the world.
  • In Germany, both the funeral service and the burial of Queen Elizabeth II are usually broadcast live on television by various television stations. In particular, ARD as well as RTL, which already reported on the funeral of Prince Philip, will also broadcast the Queen’s procession live. Exact times are not yet known.
  • In the UK, coverage will start early in the morning. The funeral will be broadcast on a number of channels, most notably BBC, ITV as well as Sky. BBC iPlayer is also offering a free online live stream of the event.
  • In the US, the procession will be broadcast live on NBC News as well as on its associated streaming service NBC News Now. CNN, Fox News and also ABC will also livestream the funeral on television.

Strictly timed: here’s how the days after the Queen’s death unfold

By Tuesday, 13 September 2022, the late Queen will first be taken from Balmoral Castle in Scotland back to Buckingham Palace. The Queen’s coffin will then be transferred to the Palace of Westminster on Wednesday. The Queen will be kept at the Palace of Westminster for three days. There, the coffin will be open to the public for 23 hours so that the British people can say goodbye to Her Majesty.

  • The funeral will be treated as a state funeral. Across the UK, two minutes’ silence will be observed during the funeral services, which will be held in Westminster Abbey.
  • Queen Elizabeth II will be laid to rest alongside both her husband Prince Philip and her father George VI at St George’s Chapel in Windsor. The funeral will be accompanied by a memorial service.
