You can’t delete someone else’s WhatsApp status, but you can mute it. You will then no longer see updates from your contacts
Deleting the WhatsApp status of others: How to mute them
If your contact has uploaded a status to WhatsApp, you cannot delete it. However, if you no longer want to see what this person shares in the status, you can simply mute a contact’s status messages:
- Open WhatsApp and tap on the News tab (at the bottom of the menu). A status message from the contact must be online so that you can mute it
- Under Status you will find the messages of your contacts that have not yet been viewed or have already been viewed. Simply press and hold the name of the contact whose status you no longer want to see. If you have subscribed to WhatsApp channels, you may have to swipe through the status messages until you find the right person.
- WhatsApp will then ask you whether you want to mute the contact’s status messages and you can confirm the action by tapping on “Mute”.
- If you want to unmute the contact, you can find the muted contacts under News – Status – More options – Muted messages and display them again by tapping on their name.
How to delete your own status on WhatsApp
If you have accidentally posted a status message or changed your mind and want to remove a picture or video from your status, proceed as follows to delete the status:
- Open WhatsApp and go to the News tab
- You will now see your own status at the top.
- Tap on the three dots next to it to go to the status view. Here you will find the delete button or, in the case of Android, the three-dot menu where you can delete your status
- Confirm the process to complete it.
