Samsung Galaxy: Import contact data

by Mike

Importing contact data to a Samsung Galaxy smartphone is possible in just a few steps. You can either use your Google account or a VCF file. We will tell you how to do this in this practical tip.

Import Samsung Galaxy contact data: Via Google account

The most convenient way to import contact data is via your Google account. It is practical that your contacts are also synchronised if you have several devices in use. To make importing possible, you must first transfer the contacts on the old smartphone to the Google account.

  • To do this, open the Contacts app on your smartphone, tap the menu at the top right and select “Manage contacts”.
  • Tap on “Move contacts”.
  • Select the location where the contacts are stored. If you have only saved the contacts locally, tap on “Phone”.
  • You can then choose where you want to save the contacts. Select your Google account and confirm by tapping on “Move”.
  • To import the contacts on your Samsung smartphone now, log in there with your Google account.
  • Contacts should sync automatically after you sign in. If not, open the settings, tap “Accounts and backup” and “Manage accounts”.
  • Then select your Google account and make sure that under “Sync account” the switch is activated at “Contacts”.

Alternative: Import contacts as VCF file

If you do not want to transfer your contacts to Google, you can also use a VCF file for the contact import.

  • Export the contacts on your old phone to this file format. To do this, open the Contacts app again and select “Manage contacts” from the menu.
  • Then tap on “Import/export contacts” and “Export”. Then select where you want to save the file. Tap on “Internal memory” here.
  • You will now find the VCF file in the download folder. Send it to your new Samsung smartphone, for example by mail.
  • Download the file to your smartphone and open it. Then tap on “Import”.
