You can open beer bottles not only with a bottle opener, but also with a lighter. We show you step by step how to do it.
How to open a beer bottle with a lighter
Note: Unless you were born with a lighter and a beer bottle, you probably won’t succeed on your first attempt. If you stay calm and relaxed, you’ll soon get the hang of it.
- Grab a beer and form a fist around the neck of the bottle. The fist should be directly under the crown cap.
- Now place the lighter in your other hand and place it on the middle joint of your index finger.
- Press your index finger down with the lighter until the lighter is firmly stuck between your index finger and the bottle cap.
- If the lighter holds on its own between the bottle cap and your fist, you have reached the correct position.
- Hold the bottle firmly and press the lighter down with your right hand like a lever. The left fist must not give way.
- If you have done everything correctly, the bottle is now open. You will find more helpful tips in the next paragraph.
Tips & tricks: Opening a beer bottle with a lighter
- You don’t need much strength to open a bottle with a lighter. The lever works for you. Hold the lighter a little further out so that the lever is longer.
- If your hand hurts after the first few attempts, you are not yet on the right track. Right-handed people usually hold the bottle with their left hand. If you try it the other way round, this can also help.
- Pro tip: Once you’ve got the hang of it, you can add a show element. If you tap the center of the crown cork three times with a lighter before opening it, there will be a good “pop” when you open it. Please note, however, that the crown cork may fly a few meters through the air.
Attention: Notes on opening beer bottles with lighters
- The lighter is more likely to be damaged, especially during the first few attempts. You should therefore not necessarily use your friends’ favorite lighter. As a rule, you do not need to worry about safety. However, you should not necessarily start your first attempts with the thin lighters made of transparent plastic.
- In order to prevent damage to your furnishings, it is important that the beer stands securely. The easiest way to start is to place the beer on a table. To prevent the beer from flying around at the end, you should not only hold the bottle firmly, but also press it down lightly.
