You can only become a vampire in Baldur’s Gate 3 via Astarion. You must help the charming rogue to become a vampire lord
Become a vampire in Baldur’s Gate 3: Requirements
If you want to become a bloodsucker in Baldur’s Gate 3, you must complete the companion quest A Pale Elf.
- You must meet the elf Astarion in the wilderness at X: 170, Y: 287 in the first act. During your first encounter with him, you must be careful not to attack him. This is the only way to recruit him
- Furthermore, you must not kill Astarion at night during the long rest period in which he tries to bite you. The vampire spawn must survive
- In order to become a vampire yourself, you must either enter into a romance with Astarion or make sure that he has a favorable opinion of you. For this reason, it is advisable to let him drink.
- After that, you must follow his quest line into the third act. There, an event occurs with Astarion’s own master, the vampire Cazador Szarr.
- Tip: If you want to play as a vampire spawn right from the start, simply select Astarion as the origin character in the character creation.
Baldur’s Gate 3: Become a Vampire through Astarion’s Ascension
In order for Astarion to become a vampire lord, you must help your party member.
- When it comes to the final duel against Cazador Szarr at the end of his quest series in the third act, you must defeat him together with Astarion. Szarr locks him in a ritual circle at the start of the fight, which makes the whole thing more difficult
- You only have three rounds to free Astarion from it. Otherwise Szarr will rise and the elf will be sacrificed. Use the Help action with a party member to break the circle
- After that, all you have to do is finish off Szarr, which isn’t easy. The vampire lord has a level of 12, but is very sensitive to spells such as daylight. This can make the fight easier for you
- Shortly before Szarr is knocked out, he retreats into his coffin. You must now help Astarion to complete the ascension ritual. Although you will sacrifice Szarr, all other vampire spawn and the Gur children, Astarion will become a fully-fledged vampire like Szarr or Count Strahd.
- After this matter, you can ask Astarion if he will make you a vampire spawn. Depending on your relationship with him, he will do you the favor afterwards.
- After a long rest, Astarion will offer you his own blood to make you a vampire. You will then learn the vampire bite and become one of the undead
