How to connect your PS3 controller to your mobile phone
Mobile phones are actually controlled by your touchscreen. But you can also connect computer mice, keyboards and even PS3 controllers to them.
- The easiest and fastest way to connect the controller to your phone is via USB OTG cable. OTG stands for On The Go and describes a cable that allows you to connect your smartphone to various devices.
- Once you have connected the controller and smartphone with the correct cable, all you have to do is press the P button on the controller and the connection is established.
- If you want to connect wirelessly, you first need to root your phone to do so. You should find out how to do that specifically for your device. Most of the time, the process is easy to perform, but it also involves risks!
- After that, you should first check if the phone is compatible with the controller. This is made possible by the Sixaxis Compatibility Checker app. After installation, grant the app “superuser” rights and click Start. If your phone is compatible, you will see the message “Your device appears to be supported. “
- Now install the Sixaxis Pair Tool, and connect the controller to your PC via cable. Then start the app and enter the Bluetooth address of your phone there, which will be displayed in the app. This is only necessary if you are using a controller that has been connected to a Playstation before.
- After this is done, remove the cable and press the power button on the controller. This requires the Sixaxis Compatibility Checker to be running in the background.
- Now that you have done the necessary preliminary work, you can install the Sixaxis Controller App. This costs 2 euros. Now connect the controller to the smartphone again and then tap on “Change IME” in the app. There you can then select the controller.
- Your controller now replaces your normal on-screen keyboard, so this is no longer available to you. That’s why you need to change the keyboard back to your default keyboard after gaming.
