Play Brotato in multiplayer: How it works

by Pramith

You and your friends want to play Brotato together in multiplayer? Here you can find out how to set up and play Brotato in multiplayer mode

Multiplayer in Brotato: Officially there is no such thing

Brotato, a popular survival game characterized by its fast and challenging rounds, does not currently offer a multiplayer mode. The game is primarily designed as a single-player experience, focusing on strategic planning and quick decision making by a single player.

  • The developers have decided to design Brotato as a single-player experience. Although there is currently no multiplayer mode available, this does not mean that it has to stay that way forever. The developers may release updates in the future that introduce multiplayer options, depending on demand and feedback from the player community.
  • Although there is no direct multiplayer mode, there are ways to share the game experience with friends: You could stream the game or take turns on individual runs.

Brotato in multiplayer: How to do it anyway

In the Steam Workshop you will find a mod that creates an unofficial multiplayer option so that you can still play with your friends. Here is a guide on how to get Brotato multiplayer up and running:

  • Preparation and settings: First you need the game Brotato, which you can get from common platforms like Steam or directly from the developer. Make sure that all players have installed and started the game. It is important that all participants use the same version of the game to avoid compatibility issues.
  • Open the Steam Workshop page of the mod.
  • Subscribe to the mod. The necessary files will now be downloaded.
  • A new multiplayer button will appear in the Brotato menu with options to create or join Steam lobbies.
  • Both players start with the same starting equipment at the same time.
  • An HP display will be visible for both players. If one player dies, the game ends and the other player wins.
  • An “opponent store” will appear in the store, allowing players to send waves of opponents to each other that appear in the following wave, or permanent stat debuffs that take effect as soon as both players leave the store.
