The Sims 5: Project Rene – Online, Multiplayer & More Rumours

by Mike

New info on The Sims 5! In EA’s livestream “The Sims Summit” in October 2022, there were first glimpses of the so-called Project Rene and statements about rumours such as the online mode, the multiplayer option and new creative design options.

This is what is known so far about The Sims 5

In a livestream on 18 October 2022, EA gave the first information about The Sims 5. The project is currently still in its infancy and is internally codenamed Project Rene.

  • The name Project Rene stands for “Renaissance” or “Renewal” and should make clear that the Sims developers want to pursue a completely new approach with the new part of the game series. Ideas from fans of The Sims will also be taken into consideration.
  • This new approach includes making Sims 5 cross-progression possible. This means that The Sims will soon be playable across devices. In the stream, footage was seen of a player playing Sims 5 on both smartphone and PC, with changes being applied in real time across both devices. Along with this, it is certain that The Sims 5 will have an online mode.
  • Furthermore, the developers want to make sure that you can not only play yourself on different platforms, but also together with your friends. So it is very likely that The Sims 5 will support multiplayer and crossplay. The emphasis here, however, is on the word “support”. Those who prefer to play in single-player mode will probably still be able to do so. For all others, a multiplayer platform will then be available.
  • At the moment, we can assume that EA will keep the price of The Sims 5 at around €50 for the basic game, as usual. Exactly what the multiplayer functions will look like or whether there will be an online requirement has not yet been fully clarified. However, it is to be expected that new gameplay packs and other extensions will be released regularly for this series as well. The release date is also unclear. According to EA, the game is currently still in an early stage of development. (Status: October 2022)

The Sims 5 offer more creative tools again

The next generation The Sims also reintroduces a popular tool known from Sims 3: The Creation Tool returns complete with colour wheel and pattern selection. In addition, objects can now be personalised in a new way.

  • Instead of only having pre-made colour combinations to choose from, Simmers in Sims 5 will once again be able to define the colours and patterns of purchase and presumably also construction objects themselves
  • You determine the colour using the colour wheel, and there are also ready-made patterns. This makes colour design much more granular again than is currently the case in The Sims 4 with ready-made colour palettes.
  • There’s another new feature: you can also determine some shapes and thus, for example, customise individual modules such as the head end of the bed, armrests and more.
  • Further on you can see some style objects like pillows and blankets draped over sofas and armchairs in the Sims Summit video footage. This was previously only possible through cheats and often only looked realistic from certain angles
  • In addition, it should be possible to load not only entire rooms or houses into the gallery – individual deco sets such as a nicely designed couch corner can now also be specifically selected and saved.
