Cancel Dropbox Pro / Plus – here’s how

by Flo

If you want to switch back to the free version of Dropbox, you can cancel your Plus subscription at any time. We show you here how to do this and what you should bear in mind when doing so.

Cancel and downgrade Dropbox Plus

You can sign up for the paid Dropbox Plus subscription either monthly or for a year. If you no longer need as much storage space, you can cancel the subscription. At the end of the contract period, your account will then be switched to Dropbox Basic.

  • Open the Dropbox website and log in with your access data.
  • Click on your profile picture in the top right-hand corner and select “Settings”.
  • Now click on the tab “Subscription” and on the button “Cancel subscription”.
  • After entering your password, you will receive a confirmation email from Dropbox that your subscription has been cancelled. This will result in your account being switched to the free Basic tariff thereafter.
  • You will not get back any fees you have already paid. You can still use the entire storage space until the end of the term.

What happens to your data after cancellation

Even if you use more than the free 2GB of storage available after downgrading, existing data will not be deleted.

  • However, your devices connected to Dropbox will no longer be updated
  • Also, you will not be able to back up new files.
  • Once you have freed up space by deleting or downloading files you no longer need to your computer, you will be able to use your Dropbox as usual.
