How does Klarna work? Explained simply and understandably

More and more online shops are offering Klarna as a payment method. But very few users know how the service works. We explain to you in an understandable way how Klarna works and how you can use the service.

Online payment by Klarna – how it works

Klarna is a company that offers payment by invoice in numerous online shops. Paying by Klarna doesn’t cost you a cent, is secure and, above all, easy. What’s more, you only pay for the goods when you actually receive them and want to keep them.

  • The Klarna service handles the purchase between the customer and the merchant, which has advantages for both sides. You process the purchase with Klarna, Klarna then transfers the money to the merchant. Unlike other payment methods, you don’t have to give your account details to every shop on the internet. The money is only transferred when you receive the goods and only to Klarna.
  • If you choose payment via Klarna when buying in an online shop, only a few data are recorded. Enter your name, your e-mail address and your address and complete the purchase. The goods will be sent by post and the invoice will be sent by e-mail.
  • If the merchandise is shipped by the merchant, you have 14 days to pay the invoice to Klarna. If you don’t like the goods, simply send the package back. The merchant will automatically cancel your open invoice with Klarna.
  • If you use Klarna as a payment method more often, you should pay your invoices as quickly as possible. If too many items have been ordered in a short time and you have not yet paid, you will have to switch to another payment method until the invoice is settled.
  • Beware: If you have still not paid the invoice after 14 days, the first reminder will not be long in coming. However, if you receive an unlawful reminder from Klarna, you can take action against it.
