Threads: When will Meta’s Twitter competitor launch?

by Johannes

Meta has fired the starting shot for Threads. Twitter’s competitor has been online since the beginning of July and the timing could hardly be better.

Threads – Twitter competitor has been launched

Since Elon Musk took over Twitter a few months ago, the short message service has stumbled badly. An extremely favourable time for Threads to position itself, because quite a few Twitter users are desperately looking for an adequate alternative.

  • There are already rumours that Threads will rudely topple Twitter from its throne and become the new place to be on the web. But that’s all just speculation, whether Threads can hold its own, the coming months will show.
  • However, Mark Zuckerberg’s short messaging service does have one enormous advantage: Threads has been linked to Instagram since the beginning, and Meta’s popular photo app has over a billion users worldwide.
  • With the help of a flag on the Instagram profile, you can see whether the respective Instagram user is logged in to Threads or not. If you prefer to keep Instagram and Threads separate, you have the option of hiding the Threads sign.
  • Since Monday, 3 July 2023, the app was already listed as a preview in the American Apple App Store and on Thursday, 6 July, the time had finally come: Threads could be downloaded. Apparently, the app was very popular, because after just a few hours, several million users are said to have logged into Threads.
  • After the launch in the USA, Meta wants to gradually introduce its short message service in other countries. However, it is still uncertain when Threads will also be available in Europe. Allegedly, there are still problems with European data protection.
