Underlining text on WhatsApp is only possible in a roundabout way. For this you need a special app.
This is how you can underline text on WhatsApp
If you want to highlight something in your text by underlining it, you need the app “Fonts” for this.
- You can download the app free of charge from the iOS or Android store.
- After installation, open the app and activate the keyboard.
- You will get to your keyboard setting and you have to activate the “Fund” keyboard there.
- You will be redirected to the app where you will need to select the “Fund” keyboard as your new keyboard and specify a language.
- Now you can write with the keyboard. This has several options for fonts to choose from, including “underline”. Select this to write your text underlined in WhatsApp.

Even without being able to underline the text, WhatsApp gives you options to highlight the words.

- Probably the easiest way to highlight text is to write it in bold. You can do this by putting a * before and after the text with no spaces in between.

- If you want to emphasise a text passage, it is worthwhile to set it in italics. This works by placing a _ before and after the sentences or words.

- If you want to emphasise that you have already completed a task or that you need to shorten a text passage during a correction, you can cross out the text. To do this, place ~ in front of and after the text.
