Using WhatsApp with Multi-SIM on iPhone and Android

If you use an iPhone or Android smartphone with multi-SIM, you can only use WhatsApp with one mobile phone number. However, it is also possible to use the number of the second SIM card for WhatsApp in a roundabout way

WhatsApp Multi-SIM: Only one account possible on iOS and Android

Currently, only one WhatsApp account can be used on a smartphone. This also applies to dual-SIM smartphones. If you insert a new SIM card, you have to register with WhatsApp again. Unfortunately, WhatsApp does not offer an official solution.

  • For Android users, however, Google thought along a long time ago; since Android 8, it has been possible to clone messenger apps for exactly this purpose. You will find instructions in the next paragraph.Unfortunately,
  • iPhone users are currently left empty-handed. You can use WhatsApp Business on both the iPhone and Android. This is a WhatsApp variant with which companies can communicate with their customers. However, you can also use the free app for your own private purposes.
  • Compared to the normal WhatsApp version, you can switch back and forth between two accounts much more easily here. However, this is not really practical, so we recommend that Android users follow the instructions in the next paragraph.
  • Note: After a few switching processes, you run the risk that your account will be blocked by WhatsApp. However, this applies when logging in on different devices. Numerous logins on the same device are not a problem, however.

Android: Using WhatsApp with a multi-SIM mobile phone

Every reasonably up-to-date Android smartphone offers an option to clone messenger apps like WhatsApp and Facebook. However, depending on the manufacturer, the function is named slightly differently and placed slightly differently in the settings.

  • Open the “Settings” app on your Android smartphone and use the search function there. Depending on the manufacturer, the function is called Dual Messenger, App Twin or Dual App. Alternatively, you will usually find what you are looking for in the “Apps” category.
  • If you activate the option, a copy of WhatsApp will be created. You will now find two WhatsApp apps on your phone. Start the second app and select the phone number of your second SIM card here. After setting up, you can use both apps in parallel, even if only one SIM card is active at times.
  • If your Android smartphone does not support this function or if you want to set up a third number, you can use the free app Parallel Space. Here you can create as many app clones as you like, not only of WhatsApp, but of any app you want.
