iCloud Drive: what it is and what it can do

If you’ve worked with other clouds like Google Drive before, then you should find iCloud Drive easy to use as well. Similar to Google’s cloud, you can also access your data in iCloud. However, this is not possible for Android.

  • Compatibility: You can access iCloud Drive with your iPod touch, iPad, iPhone as well as your Mac. For the smartphones as well as tablets, you need iOS 11 or newer to access iCloud Drive. Moreover, you can access the cloud with your PC if you have at least Windows 10 installed.
  • Features: You can upload documents, pictures as well as videos to the cloud. This creates storage space on your device and you can access the files from any device. In addition, you can back up to iCloud Drive with one. Make sure that you have a maximum of 5 gigabytes of storage available for free. If you need more, you’ll need to upgrade to iCloud+.
  • Furthermore, you can also access your data in iCloud Drive offline. For this, you need to load the files from the cloud locally. Your changes will be synchronized in iCloud Drive as soon as you connect to the Internet with the corresponding device.
  • Another useful feature of iCloud Drive is sharing your data. By sharing individual files or folders with your colleagues, friends as well as family, you can conserve your storage capacity and still share the files with each other. Moreover, sharing the data makes it easier to work on joint projects.
  • You need an Apple ID to use iCloud Drive. If you want to access the cloud from your Mac, you can do so from the Finder. On the iPad, iPhone as well as iPod touch, iCloud Drive is integrated into the Files app. If you want to access it from your Windows PC, you can do so through your browser.
