AirPods settings: How to configure the headphones correctly

We explain how to configure the AirPods correctly in the settings. For example, you can set what happens when you tap the headphones and when you want the music to stop automatically

AirPods settings: How to configure the headphones properly

First, go to the “Settings” app and tap “Bluetooth”. Then tap on the “i” behind the AirPods.

  • At the top, you can either disconnect or ignore the device.
  • You can also set a name for your AirPods. To do this, tap the current name and enter a new one.
  • The setting “Double tap on AirPods” is important. Here you can define which action should be carried out when you tap twice on the headphones. Either Siri is activated or the music playing is paused or started. This function is available for AirPods of the 1st and 2nd generation. With AirPods of the 3rd generation, this does not work by double-tapping, but by pressing the pressure sensor on the stem of the headphones.
  • If the “Automatic Ear Detection” function is activated, music is played as soon as you put the AirPods in your ear.
  • On AirPods Pro, you can press and hold to change the noise control mode. You make the setting for both headphones individually. To do this, tap “Left” or “Right”. It is important that “Noise control” is selected in the field next to it.
  • Determine which noise control mode is activated when the pressure sensor on the stalk is pressed. You can choose between “Active Noise Reduction”, “Transparency” and “Off”.
