Apple Pencil is not recognised by iPad: Possible reasons

Your iPad not recognising the Apple Pencil may be due to an update to iOS, simple system errors, or hardware defects.

  • Charge the Apple Pencil to make sure the battery has enough power. To determine this, you can use the battery widget.
  • Check under Settings -☻ Bluetooth if the Pencil is visible. You may need to set it up again.
  • If the Apple Pencil is visible, remove it and set it up again.
  • Try registering the Apple Pencil to another device. This will help you find out if it’s the Pencil or the tablet.
