Hide pictures on the iPad – this is how it works

by Flo

To hide pictures on iPad, you don’t need to download an additional app. You can hide the photos directly in the iPad operating system. However, if you want to protect your pictures with a password, there is no way around an app.

How to hide pictures on the iPad

Use the “hide function” to protect your photos from prying eyes.

  • You can access the hide function by clicking the button with the three dots in the Photos app. Select one or more photos and tap the button at the bottom right if you have selected more than one, or at the top right if you only want to hide one.
  • Tap on “Hide” and confirm the selection.
  • The photo is now displayed in the “Hidden” folder. In the settings you can determine whether the folder should be displayed or also hidden.
  • Here you have the option to turn the hidden album on and off. If you turn it off, your photos will still remain and reappear when you turn it on again.
  • If your device is equipped with Face ID, you also have the option to encrypt the “Hide” album with Face ID. So only you or another registered user can access it, even if the folder is visible.
  • If you want to protect your pictures with an extra password, you’ll need to turn to third-party apps like Avast Security & Photo Vault.
