Outlook: Entering public holidays

by Mike

If you want to enter the public holidays for the current or coming year in Outlook, you do not have to enter each date individually by hand. We show you how to import all the public holidays you want into Outlook with just a few clicks.

Outlook: Import holidays instead of entering them

Online you will find numerous ready-made calendars containing all public holidays. You can download these calendars free of charge and add them to Outlook.

  • On the website of Schulferien.org you will find all public holidays as well as school holidays in a compatible format.
  • Scroll down a little and select the public holidays for the whole of Germany or for your federal state.
  • Double-click the downloaded file to import it into Outlook. If you are using an older version of Outlook, you will also need the following instructions for importing public holidays.
    • Afterwards, all public holidays for the selected year will be displayed in Outlook. If the public holiday is on the same date year after year, they will automatically be repeated in the following years.
    • The new calendar is displayed on the left in the overview under “Other calendars” as “Untitled”. If necessary, you can rename the calendar to “Holidays” by right-clicking and hide or delete it again at any time.

Outlook: Delete old holidays and enter new holidays

If you have already imported the public holidays into Outlook last year or have entered them manually so far, duplicate entries may occur after the import. However, the problem can be easily solved.

    • If you have already added the new calendar, deactivate or delete it as described in step 5 above.
    • Then go to the “View” tab at the top, click on the “Change view” button and select the “List” option.
    • Mark all holidays here and delete them by right-clicking on the “Delete” option or by pressing the [Del] key.
      • You can then show t
he current calendar with the public holidays again or import it again.
