Editing video on your mobile phone – a quick guide for Android

by Mike

You can edit a mobile phone video using software or directly on your Android smartphone to create a beautiful clip. In our guide, we show you how both options work

Cut mobile phone video on the Android smartphone

Recorded mobile phone videos can be edited directly on the smartphone:

  • On Android, you already have a function pre-installed for this. Open your video for editing in the Gallery app.
  • Then click on the menu button and select “Crop”.
  • Use a slider to determine the sequence you want to cut.
  • Once you have trimmed the video, you can save it to your device with the “Save” button and share it with your friends.
  • To edit videos on iOS, reach for the app iMovie.

Alternative: Editing a mobile phone video on a PC

If you transfer a mobile phone video to your PC, you can edit it directly on the computer:

  • Mobile phone videos are usually recorded as MP4 or sometimes MOV on Android and iOS. If you connect your device to your PC via USB cable, you can transfer the video files to your computer.
  • To edit the videos, you need the free tool Free Video Editor.
  • Load the video file into the “Free Video Editor”, trim it accordingly and export the finished clip. Since the tool does not re-encode the videos, no time-consuming calculations are necessary.
  • For those who want to edit their mobile phone videos in addition to cutting them, Lightworks is a comprehensive and free software for this purpose.
