If you want to cut out a logo, you don’t have to buy expensive software right away. Most free programs offer the features you need. Here, we’ll explain the easiest way to do it.
Cropping a Logo with paint.net: The Magic Wand Tool
A simple tool with many important features is paint.net. To crop a logo, you need to cut it out. The fastest way to do this is with the Magic Wand tool.
- With the Magic Wand tool, you can select specific color areas.
- Using the Tolerance slider, you can determine how precisely the tool should work. This means that the lower the tolerance, the more exact the selected area will be. With a high tolerance, multiple color areas will be selected together.
- In paint.net, the Magic Wand is located in the Quick Access Toolbar. You can also select the feature in the Tools tab (under File).
How to Cut Out Your Logo
You usually cut out a logo when you want it to appear frameless—as if it were printed directly on an image or flyer. You can either select the logo and then cut it out, or highlight the area around the logo. Both methods yield the same result. Which method is faster depends on the complexity of the logo.
- Cut out the logo directly: Click with the magic wand tool on an area within the logo. If it doesn’t select the entire area, you’ll need to adjust the tolerance. You can also select additional areas by holding down the Ctrl key and clicking strong>/strong>. Finally, cut out the logo using Ctrl + C or Ctrl + X to place it elsewhere.
- Remove background: To do this, click next to the logo to select the surrounding color. You can now delete this area using the Remove button. You can remove other areas you want to delete—such as white spaces inside letters—in the same way.
- Tip: Use CTRL + I to invert the current selection. This keyboard shortcut is very useful when cutting out a logo.
