Signal is a popular free messenger app that values data protection and privacy. This has made it a real WhatsApp alternative. If you want to install Signal on your smartphone, proceed as follows:
- Download the app. Signal is available for download from us for both Android and iOS.
- Open the app. If you have installed Signal for the first time, tap “Next”. If, on the other hand, you have already used the messenger and also created a backup, select “Restore backup”.
- Then enter your call number. This phone number will then be linked to your Signal account so that others can find you in Messenger using your phone number.
- After you enter the number, a code will be sent to you by SMS. You enter this in the app to verify yourself.
- Now you can set up your profile with Signal by entering your name in the text field. Furthermore, you can also add a profile picture by tapping on the corresponding icon above.

- Under “Privacy”, you can activate the screen lock here via the corresponding slider.
