Windows 11 – This is what it looks like and what it can do

Windows 11 was finally released on 05 October 2021. Here is an overview of the most important news and the new design.

  • The Start button can move from the left side to the centre if desired and now floats above the taskbar and has rounded corners. The structure of the Start menu is also new: Live tiles are a thing of the past.
  • In the upper part of the Start menu, programmes are pinned. Below this, the user will find recently accessed files, and the controls for switching off the system are not missing.
  • You still have the choice between light and dark mode. Standard wallpapers without the Windows logo are new. In addition, you can change your entire system theme with one click using custom or pre-installed themes.
  • Those who miss the widgets for weather and co. from earlier Windows versions can rejoice: They are back in Windows 11. They can now be found in a separate view that can be opened from any screen.
  • Windows Search has been revamped and now works via a magnifying glass icon in the taskbar. Quick search terms as well as a list of recent queries should further simplify and speed up the search for the user.
  • A handy feature to come with Windows 11 is the new window control called “Snap Layouts”. Unlike before, windows can not only be maximised or minimised, but also easily placed specifically in a corner of the screen or arranged side by side.
  • The settings have also been revised and only offer more functions of the former control panel. You can now adjust all the important settings via the Windows settings.
  • The entire operating system also appears in a much more modern design. Rounded corners, enhanced transparency effects and a revamped file explorer contribute to the new look.
  • Last but not least, Windows 11 announces its launch with a new startup sound.
  • Interested users can look forward to a new setup. This applies not only to a new installation, but also to an update from Windows 10 to Windows 11, which is free of charge for Windows 10 users.
