If you’ve forgotten the password for your Samsung tablet, you won’t be able to access the device. However, if the device is connected to Wi-Fi, you can solve the problem quite easily.
Resetting a forgotten Samsung tablet password
When setting up your Samsung tablet, you linked the device to your Samsung account. You can use this account to easily reset the tablet’s password so that you can access the device again without a PIN.
- To do this, open Samsung’s Find My Mobile website and log in to your Samsung account.
- Select your tablet on the left and wait a moment until the device has been located.
- You will then see several options on the right-hand side. Select “Unlock.”
- Click “Unlock” again and confirm the process with the password for your Samsung account.
- The PIN or password will then be deleted from your Samsung tablet and you will be able to access the device again.
- You can now set a new password for your tablet. It works the same way as on a smartphone.
Samsung account: Forgot your password
If you have forgotten the password for your Samsung account, you can easily reset it online. However, this usually does not affect the use of your tablet.
- First, go to the Samsung website.
- Click on the “User icon” in the top right corner and select the “Log in/Sign up” option.
- Click on “Forgot user ID” and enter your email address or phone number.
- You will then receive a link from Samsung.
- Open the link to assign a new password for your Samsung account. You will then have access to your Samsung account again.
Use another option
Another option is to use Google Find My Device. This allows you to remotely reset your tablet if you don’t have a Samsung account. However, please note that this will delete all data.
- Google Find My Device is a Google service that helps users locate, lock, play a sound, or erase their lost or stolen Android devices remotely. It works on smartphones, tablets, and Wear OS devices that are linked to a Google account with location services enabled.
- Once activated, Find My Device uses GPS, Wi-Fi networks, and cell towers to display an approximate location on a map. Users can remotely lock their device, display a message with contact information on the lock screen, or erase the device to protect their data if recovery is unlikely.
- The newer Find My Device app, also known as Find Hub, extends functionality by enabling devices to be located offline via a crowdsourced network of over a billion Android devices. It supports finding compatible Bluetooth tags for everyday items, finding nearby devices, viewing proximity to private Nest devices, and sharing device access with friends or family.
- This network uses multi-layered privacy protection, including end-to-end encryption for location data. To use it, the lost device must be powered on, connected to mobile data or Wi-Fi, have Find Hub enabled, and be signed in to a Google account.
- Location services must be enabled. Users can access the service by signing in to “Find My Device” on the web or to the “Find My Hub” app on another smartphone or tablet. They can then see the device’s location, make it ring, lock it, or erase it. If devices such as Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro support this feature, you can even find them when they are turned off or have a dead battery.
- Google Find My Device is primarily designed for Android devices and works differently than Apple’s “Find My” or Samsung’s “Find My Mobile.” Effectiveness may vary depending on local Android device density and user settings. For example, it works best in areas where many active Android devices are sharing location data, such as India, and less so in some other regions.
- Or you can use recovery mode via the key combination (Volume Up + Power or additionally Home key) to completely reset the tablet via “Wipe data/factory reset”.
- Additional option for all users: Remove the lock screen via Android ADB (only if USB debugging is enabled) and Bootloader/Console. This works without data loss (via adb shell rm /data/system/…).
- Finally, you can also use professional third-party tools such as DroidKit or Tenorshare 4uKey, which can also bypass or reset locks. This may void your warranty and should therefore be considered carefully. There is often a cost involved.
- Please note that the FRP (Factory Reset Protection) security feature protects your devices from unauthorized use after they have been reset to factory settings. The Android feature prevents anyone from simply resetting and reusing your stolen or lost device without knowing the login information for the original Google account set up on the device.
