If your Sodastream isn’t sparkling, there could be a number of reasons for this. It’s important to take a closer look to fix the problem.
Sodastream not carbonating: What to do
If the water in your Sodastream is not carbonating, there could be several reasons for this. First, you should try to carbonate the water again. However, this will only work if there is no syrup in the water yet.
- If there is still no carbonation in the water, you should check whether there is still carbonation in the Sodastream cylinder. To do this, check that the cylinder is screwed in correctly.
- If this is not the case, tighten the carbon dioxide cylinder with your hands. Do not use tools for this, as they may damage the cylinder.
- Then press the carbonation button again. Check whether carbon dioxide is now entering the bottle and you have sparkling water.
Sodastream: Causes and solutions for lack of fizz
If you still don’t get sparkling water after following the steps above, the added CO₂ may have escaped. This can happen if there is a leak in the Sodastream. There are three possible causes for this:
- The supply line to the device head or the soda nozzle is leaking: If the problem is a leaky supply line, you should tighten the middle valve in the Sodastream device head.
- The cylinder has not been inserted correctly or the seal is defective: If gas is escaping between the cartridge and the thread, it is advisable to replace the sealing ring. It may also have simply fallen off and you will need to place it back on the valve when inserting the cartridge.
- The seal between the glass carafe and the carbonation nozzle no longer closes completely: If the carbon dioxide in the pressure vessel, into which you place the glass bottle for carbonation, is lost, this also indicates a defective seal. To fix this problem, you can place a rubber disc one to two millimeters thick in the vessel. This will cause the bottle neck to exert more pressure upwards.
- Tip: You can order a free sealing ring from Sodastream customer service. If you have lost the ring or it no longer seals properly, this can solve many problems.
