Google Discover: How to customise the Google Feed

by Michaela

Google Discover is popular because the feed displays news and information in one place. It also lets you customise the types of cards so you get even more relevant ads.

Customise Google Discover – here’s how

Customise Google Discover on your mobile devices with the following steps:

  • Make sure your web & app activities are enabled. To do this, go to the Activity Settings page and enable it.
  • Open the Google App and press More in the bottom bar and select Customise Discover.
  • Now add new topics to your interests under the Follow Topics item.
  • In the settings of Follow active and Sport you can adjust already existing topics and if necessary delete or add topics in the different categories.
  • You can also make changes directly from the overview.
  • Tap the 3-dot icon at the top right of a card to hide the article, delete the topic or website from your interests or follow the suggested topic.
  • By clicking the control icon at the bottom right of a card, you choose whether you want to see more or fewer such items, and thus adjust the frequency.

What is Google Discover? This is what the algorithm can do

Google Discover is a personalised news feed that appears on the Google homepage on mobile devices and in the Google app. Google Discover’s algorithm is designed to provide users with relevant and interesting content from around the web, based on their previous searches, interests and online activities.

  • Google Discover’s algorithm analyses the user’s search queries and online activities and uses this information to offer them appropriate content. This includes news articles, videos, images, blog posts and more. Content is selected based on a variety of factors, such as how recent it is, how popular it is and how relevant it is to the user.
  • Google Discover can also display notifications about current events, such as sporting events, political developments or weather alerts. It can also display personalised content based on the user’s location, such as recommendations for nearby restaurants or places of interest.
  • Google Discover is a useful feature for users who want quick and easy access to relevant and interesting content from the Internet without having to explicitly search for it.
