Arcane Tower in Baldur’s Gate 3 – activate the elevator

In the lower realm of Baldur’s Gate 3 there is an arcane tower that can be entered but is guarded by magic guns. To activate the elevator, you must remove the tower’s enchantment.

  • The Arcane Tower is located in the far southwest of the Underrealm. The nearest fast travel point is the beach in the Underrealm. As you approach the tower, you will quickly discover that the magical turrets are designed to prevent intruders from getting inside the tower.
  • The turrets can either be deactivated by a Sussur Blossom, if you have already collected it from the Sussur Tree in the south-east of the Underdark, or destroyed by targeted spells with lightning damage. You should generally make use of the turn-based mode. Although this usually switches itself on, it can also be activated by clicking on the hourglass at the bottom right.
  • Once you have made it past the guns, do not enter the tower through the main entrance, but jump over the mushrooms around the tower on the left. This will take you to the back courtyard, where you will also find sussur flowers. You will also need these to deactivate the tower’s magical defenses and activate the elevator inside.
  • At the back of the tower, opposite the Sussurblüten, is the rear entrance to the cellar vault, which needs to be cracked. Alternatively, you can use a character with the Mist Shape spell to get inside via the pipe on the hill to the right of the door. Once you have made it, you should first go to the generator
  • Now place the sussur blossom in the generator and combine the two. The enchantment is then removed, the guns inside are deactivated and the elevator is ready for use.

This is what’s inside the Arcane Tower

Now that you can safely enter the tower, there are a few items and secrets inside that are worth exploring.

  • Directly on the second floor above the cellar vault, you will find Timmask Spores and the Tongue of Madness on a shelf, which you will need for the quest of Omeluum from the Myconoid Village. You should also read all the books you find on each floor, as these will help you further up the tower.
  • One floor further up you will also find books and a chest on one of the balconies, whose useless items turn into useful equipment and scrolls after a successful Arcana check.
  • On the next floor, there are more books and a torn-out book page that you should also read. The button on the wall doesn’t seem to work at first. If you have dug out the dog collar, which is located southwest of the Sussur tree, it will react to the button and you will receive dog food
  • On the top floor, the roof, you will be directly involved in a cutscene with Bernard. Bernard is an animatronic butler who can be controlled using the phrases you have taken from the books on each level. Be careful, however, as the sentence where you mention a light in each creature will cause both Bernard and all the other magical armor to become aggressive and attack you.
  • Choose the option where you ask if you can trust Bernard, then he places the Ring of Beacon on the table. Equip the ring and go to the elevator to reveal a secret button. This will take you to a previously inaccessible basement, where you will find a diary of the tower’s owner and a golden chest containing various items.
