In Hogwarts Legacy, you will encounter various monsters as well as peaceful animal creatures that you can give a new home to

With this mission you will unlock animal creatures in Hogwarts Legacy

Animal creatures in Hogwarts Legacy cannot be caught and bred from the beginning. Only after you reach a certain point in the story and complete the mission do you gain access to the mechanics surrounding the magical creatures.

  • Before you can capture the first creature, you must complete the main mission “The Moon-Possessed Caretaker”. The mission is designed for level 15, but requires light-footedness instead of combat strength, as you are supposed to help Mr. Moon steal Demiguise statues.
  • After you have successfully completed the quest, you will automatically unlock more side missions. One of them is called “The Elf, the Snatch Bag and the Loom”. To start this one, go to the house elf Deek in the Room of Wishes.
  • Together with Deek you now go in search of several animal creatures, which you catch with the grab bag. In total, you catch three animal creatures: a cuddly muff, a jobberknoll and a mooncalf. Depending on the creature, it helps to make yourself invisible beforehand, as some creatures are shy and flee from you. With spells like Arresto Momentum, you can make capturing the animals much easier.
  • As part of the mission, you will gain access to a vivarium where you can relocate captured animals in the future. As the game progresses, you will gain access to even more vivariums. Once you have completed the mission for Deek, you can now catch and relocate other animal creatures as you please.

These animal creatures exist in Hogwarts Legacy

The area around Hogwarts Castle is home to a total of 13 different animal creatures, all of which, with the exception of one, can be caught, bred and sold.

  • You have already met the three animal creatures Jobberknoll, Knuddelmuff and the Mooncalf during the mission. They are among the most common animal creatures in Hogwarts Legacy.
  • Fwuuper are birds just like Jobberknolls and are most notable for their garish colours. They provide Fwuuper feathers, which are needed to upgrade certain items.
  • Nifflers love to steal and hoard gold and other items, much to the annoyance of the residents of Hogwarts Legacy. They resemble a platypus in appearance and are common.
  • Giant purple toads may not be the cutest animal creatures in the game, however their toad warts are also needed to upgrade certain equipment.
  • The cat-like gnomes are very shy, so it is advisable to make yourself invisible beforehand so that you can get close enough to the animal creature.
  • Diricawls are birds that travel mostly on foot. You will encounter the feathered creatures mainly in the later stages of the game, as they have only one shelter in the valley of Hogwarts at the beginning.
  • The phoenix is the only creature in the game that you can only obtain through a quest and of which there is only one in Hogwarts Legacy. Its feathers are used to enhance your equipment, as are the other Beastie materials.
  • You will encounter the Hippogriff both during a main mission and in the wild. In the vivarium, you will receive hippogriff feathers from the winged creatures.
  • Thestrals can only be found in two places on the map. They are also relatively difficult to catch, as they start flying away as soon as you try to catch them with the snapping bag. It is therefore advisable to use both the invisibility spell and spells like Arresto Momentum.
  • Unicorns also exist in Hogwarts Legacy. They stay exclusively in the forbidden forest and are also shy creatures.
  • You will only encounter the Graphorn towards the end of the game as part of the main story. After that, you can catch more specimens on the Clagmar Coast.

This is what breeding and selling is all about

In Hogwarts Legacy, you can not only house the animal creatures, but also breed offspring or sell the animals.

  • As vivariums have limited space, you are free to sell captive animals at the Beak & Brood shop in Hogsmeade. For each animal creature sold, you will receive 120 gold here. Catching the animal creatures is therefore a good source of income, as they are available in the game in unlimited quantities.
  • At a certain point in the game, the house elf Deek explains to you in the Room of Wishes that you can use a hatchery to provide offspring for the captured animal creatures. Note, however, that you will need one male and one female to do this. Breeding the creatures is a prerequisite for completing the challenges in the Room of Requirement.
  • In the game, there are also special copies of each animal being. These rare variants are marked with a star symbol and differ in colour from the conventional variants of the respective species.
