Deleting Firefox extensions: Here’s how

by Pramith

Extensions in Firefox, known as ‘add-ons’, are useful, but they can also slow down your browser. Fortunately, these little programmes are just as easy to delete as they were to install. In this practical tip, you’ll find out how this works and how you can keep your browser clean and fast.

Deleting or disabling add-ons in Firefox

  1. You can find the settings menu for add-ons by clicking the orange ‘Firefox’ button in the top-left corner and then selecting ‘Add-ons’. Alternatively, you can use the keyboard shortcut [Strg]+[Umschalt]+[A]. Note: In the new Firefox 29, you can find the ‘Add-ons’ menu item by clicking on the three horizontal ‘settings bars’ in the top right-hand corner.
  2. Go to the “Extensions” section. Here you will see all the add-ons currently installed in your Firefox browser.
  3. There are three buttons next to each extension: “Options”, “Disable” and “Remove”.
  4. If you select “Disable”, the add-on will be deactivated. You can reactivate it at any time.
  5. If you select “Remove”, the add-on will be uninstalled and will disappear completely from your browser. Of course, you can still reinstall it later.
  6. Restart your browser once you have made all the necessary settings.
