Restarting the FritzBox via PC – this is how it works

by Pramith

You can restart your FritzBox in two ways. Either you pull out the mains plug or you use the user interface in the browser.

Restart the FritzBox using the user interface on the PC

If you want to restart the FritzBox via your PC, you must first open the user interface. You can do this by entering the host name or IP address of the box in your web browser. The only important thing is that it is in the same network as the FritzBox.

  • Enter the address fritz.box in the address field of your browser.
  • If the login menu does not appear, you can also try the IP address you enter in the browser. For most models, this is 192.168.178.1 – otherwise refer to the manual of your FritzBox.
  • Once the login area has appeared, log in with your password.
  • If you encounter any problems during the login process, we offer a more detailed article on how to access your FritzBox interface.

Restart the FritzBox via the browser

After you have successfully logged in, you only need to find the correct submenu. The menus of all current models are structured identically, the expert mode is not necessary.

  • Click on System in the left side menu.
  • Now select Backup from the submenu.
  • Switch to the Restart tab in the right-hand area by clicking on it.
  • You will find the Restart button there, which you must click in order for the router to reboot. The process takes about two minutes. Please do not unplug the power cord while the box is booting up.
