Can you delete the entire internet? Simply explained

by Corinna

The fear of deleting the Internet is great, especially among the older generation. They fear removing the entire network with just one wrong mouse click. Others literally search for the key combination in chats to achieve their goal. But is it really possible?

Deleting the Internet: This is why it can’t succeed

The Internet is like a spider’s web. This realisation should be no less frightening to spider-phobes, but it is a good thing when it comes to possible attempts to delete it. Because even a woven spider’s web can by no means be destroyed by a few cut connection points.

  • The internet works like a connecting line between two places. Electronic information can be exchanged via this connection, also known as an intermediate network. Computers are available for this purpose, which receive the signals by cable or wirelessly.
  • This world network of computer connections is also made up of countless other computer networks – of varying sizes. Computers are connected to the individual computer networks at millions of nodes.
  • To delete the internet, someone would have to wantonly cut all connections of all existing computers. That in itself is actually impossible.
  • No one would develop a single button or a simple key combination that could wipe out the Internet so easily. No technical genius in the world would be that careless.
  • However, it is also clear that without electricity there is no internet. Because the entire technology is built on a stable power supply.
