Christmas tree: Which tax rate applies?

When it comes to Christmas trees, there is a real tax chaos because many different tax rates can apply. The correct tax rate is already included in the online prices.

  • Artificial Christmas trees have 19% VAT, whereas trees from traders (Obi, Amazon,…) have 7%.
  • A tree from a forester is subject to 5.5% VAT if it has grown wild in the forest. On the other hand, 10.7 % is due if the forester has planted the tree and grown it up.
